Sexy Skins Leather and Tinken Jewelry Collaboration

I am very excited about the Sexy Skins collaboration with Kristina Backes from Tinken Jewelry! Kristina holds a degree in all areas of Goldsmithing and Jewelry Design from the Goldsmith Academy of Vicenza, Italy. Over the past 10 years, Kristina has worked in the jewelry field extensively in both Germany and Italy.

My relationship with the German born jeweler began with the collaboration on a custom piece for one of my clients. Kristina and I soon realized we had more in common than just sharing a passion for creating with our desired mediums, and we began to explore the possibilities of marrying metal with leather to create a collection of exquisite jewelry for both men and women.

The first design in our collection will utilize interchangeable leather bands to showcase Kristina's sterling silver sculptures which float gracefully in the center; each with its own special meaning, and with bands available in four different colors of very luxurious Aztec leather. Also as part of our collection, Kristina and I have designed Sterling Silver and White Gold “beads” which will adorn gorgeous handcrafted Kangaroo leather braided cuffs. Due for release in April.

The Denimrack Collection

A fun and exciting project which I had the pleasure of working on was, "The Denimrack Collection". That is because I had the opportunity to work with the owner of The Denimrack Boutique, Joe Hickey. Not only does Joe possess incredible business savvy, he is also extremely creative with a phenomenal eye for color and texture. Those qualities combined with my leather expertise and fashion sense, have resulted in the creation of a collection of leather cuffs which are fun, hip, and trendy.

I'm so proud of this collection for its quality and design! All the cuffs are handmade with the most luxurious of latigo leathers available, and using the most unique hardware I could fine. Sarah Fox and The Portsmouth Fire Fighters Charitable Association

When asked to design a cuff for The Portsmouth Fire Fighters Charitable Association's Ride for Sarah Fox, I put all aside, and immediately headed to the studio and my drafting table to begin work on the design.

Portsmouth Firefighter Sarah Fox was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 9, 2007. At the time she was also 36 ½ weeks pregnant with twins. Twelve hours after her diagnosis the twins were born making a family of seven. Sarah fought through the many challenges and treatments that cancer brings and beat the odds returning to work in January 2009. Just over a year later Sarah developed a pain in her hip which was discovered to be cancer. Sarah, her husband Matt, and their 5 children and extended family are faced with the fight against cancer once again.

I had asked what words of inspiration brought comfort and courage to Sarah, and incorporated into the cuff design her favorite quote from Charles Haddon Spurgeon, "by perseverance the snail reached the ark”. Another inspiration for the design is a circle; the ancient and universal symbol of unity, wholeness, and infinity, which also represents the strength of the human spirit. Our “circle” is a ¾” metal ring which functions as a closure, and is a unique and decorative element to the Sarah’s Cuff design.

The feedback I am getting from "Sarah's Cuff" is incredibly positive. People feel inspired by the quote Sarah chose because at one time or another, we all have had to muster up the courage to fight, and needed the patience to endure when faced with personal trials and tribulation. Recently, a woman shared with me her story of when she was just a young child suffering from hearing loss, her parents supported her and fought with the school when she was failing. Now she's a breast cancer surgeon.

IAFF 9/11 Tribute Rally, Ride, and Cuffs

On September 11th, Sexy Skins and crew, traveled to Newburgh, NY for the International Association of Fire Fighter's 9/11 Tribute Rally and Ride. It was quite an honor to ride in the procession of nearly 4,000 motorcycles on the freeways of New York to the Fire Fighter's Memorial in New York City, where we all gathered to remember those who perished on that day, and reflect upon the tragedies of this time in our nation's history.

An even greater honor was bestowed upon Sexy Skins. The IAFF asked us to design a leather cuff for the Tribute Rally and Ride. With our hands we crafted the 10th Anniversary of September 11th Commemorative Cuffs with the hope that our creation will help unite this generation and generations to come.

We will never forget the men and women fire fighters who lost their lives on that day. We will forever remember all those who perished, and hold in our hearts the families they left behind.

Heroes of Hope Breast Cancer Calendar

A calendar featuring Sexy Skins clothing and models is something which I have had the desire to do for some time. I approached New England Walkers for Knockers, Brenda Smith with the idea for a collaboration on such a calendar with the intent to raise money toward the cure for breast cancer. It was agreed that the models should be people who have been afflicted with the disease, giving them a podium to share their stories, and educate the world about this horrific disease. Five of our models chose to wear Sexy Skins.

Through my experience watching as my sister battled Leukemia, I developed an understanding for how much people have to endure while battling a disease. Therefore, it became my personal desire for every person posing in front of the lens for our calendar, to feel extraordinarily beautiful or handsome, and comfortable. For if it was just this one day, I wanted to be somewhat responsible for bringing to their lives, a bit of peace, normalcy, contentment, and self-confidence. My role changed from fashion designer to photo stylist, as I assisted our photographer on the shoots.

The Heroes for Hope Breast Cancer Calendar came out smashingly gorgeous! And it's all because of our team of people who donated their time and energy, and shared their incredible talents with us and the world! I was truly blessed to work with; graphic designer, Lori Elwell, Arielle Andrews of Seacoast Harley Davidson, the extremely talented photographer, Cynthia August, and project coordinator, Brenda Smith of NE-W4K.

The J. Geils Band Concert and Magic Dick

What an AWESOME weekend!! If you have been tuning in lately, then you know, I was hired by Magic Dick from the legendary J. Geils Band, and wife, Susan to design and create a custom leather jacket for him to wear at the J. Geils Homecoming Concert in Boston this past Saturday. With only a week to do it (a custom jacket, from start to finish can take over 3 months), there were many long days and sleepless nights - but I did it!

Susan picked up his jacket Saturday morning. She loved it! But the true test would be Dick because as a performer, his needs are different than the average person. Function is as important, if not more, than fashion. I had to alter the pattern and the design to allow for comfort and mobility on stage. And without the necessary time for the proper amount of fittings, I had to go with my gut and trust my instincts. Saturday afternoon I received word in the form of a text that read, "Dick LOVES his jacket! Thank You!!!!!!". Yay!!!....that was obviously what I wanted to hear. Now I was even more excited about going to see Dick, and the Geils Band perform that evening.

We arrived in town around 7:00, picked up our tickets and VIP passes at the door (Thank you, Susan!), and walked toward the concession stand to fill our tummies. We ate and found our seats. Brent, the person who came into my life at the perfect time and gave me the courage to follow my dream, got the best seat for viewing. I sat between my two boys, the two most important people in my life, therefore, the best seat in the house. In fact, it was my oldest, who when times were at the toughest, came into my office, threw his leg around the arm of the chair, and with the deepest sincerity said, "Mom, no matter what...never give up on Sexy Skins". So much wisdom from a 13 year old because it was those words which gave me the incredible power to continue on my journey.

Finally, the J. Geils band took center stage and the show began! There he was, Magic Dick, wearing his new jacket, looking sexy as hell!! What an AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, concert!!! The J. Geils Band rocks!!! The music was fantastic! And, boys shared their first concert experience with me, reaping some of the rewards too like going back stage to meet the band and spend some time with Dick in his dressing room. Dick is a very special and talented human being. I'm so grateful for this experience in more ways than the obvious. Simply, AWESOME...:-)

Heroes of Hope Part 2

The photo shoots for the Heroes of Hope Breast Calendar are now complete!! This past weekend, Cynthia August shot the remaining models, all themselves are either survivors, or currently undergoing treatment. The first to have their photos taken were Kelly and her son Ryan. Ryan, at just 10 years old, wrote and dedicated a rap song to his Mom, the song which was the inspiration for Kelly's survival. Janice was up next and brought with her to incorporate in her shoot; her coyote pelt, blue bird feathers, and a few other items. We also photographed Ed, an 81 year old veteran who I must say does not act or look like his age, Pauline, and Darleen. You can read all of our models stories in the calendar. After most of my creative responsibilities for the production of this calendar are complete, I'm once again left saying, "there are just no words" to describe what a journey this has been. There are no Words

This past Saturday and Sunday, I spent both days with photographer, Cynthia August, and four breast cancer survivors; Michelle, Diane, Joanne, and Heather. I hate to admit it, but on my hour-long drive to the studio of our talented photographer, I was feeling a little selfish thinking of all the other things I could have been doing and so desperately needed to be doing, and how much of my time and money I was donating. Then I arrived to see Cynthia standing in the driveway as a motorcycle was being unloaded from the trailer, and my high school and college best friend, Michelle, waving from the studio window.

Every negative feeling I had on my drive down, dissipated. I was no longer thinking about anything else but the moment at hand as I got to dress and style these lovely ladies and help them to feel beautiful and sexy. I also witnessed how happy they were to be working with me, to be wearing my clothing, and how appreciative and grateful toward me for my efforts in this project to raise money for the cause.

I cannot remember the last time I have ever felt so moved as I did this weekend. There are just no words to describe the feeling. If you can, take some time and volunteer. Even if this time in your life isn't the most opportune, do it. YOU WILL BE BLESSED!

Think Pink!

Every project I work on is special in its own right, but this last custom project was doubly so because it was created for a woman who has survived breast cancer. She came to me wanting to have a pink motorcycle jacket made. As we discussed the style and cut for her new custom jacket, and the type of leather she wanted, she began to share a little bit about her experiences battling the disease. She told me about her dogs, and how they are what carried her through. She showed me a pair of her favorite pink and beige cowboy boots, a pink ribbon key chain, and a little paw print do-hickey. Then, the light bulb went off! Below, are photos of the jacket we created for Joanne. What do you think?

Life is GOOD and My Pants are Too Tight!

You would think with a company name such as Sexy Skins, most of my clients would be slim and trim. Maybe you would think that its founder and designer, would be also. Well, they're not, and I'm not. In fact, in the last year or so, I have put on a few extra pounds. My pants are too tight, and I'm okay with that!

Life is Good! Business is great! I am in love with my life! I spend each day living my dream and following my passion. I will admit, it has NOT been an easy road traveled AT ALL, but it has been a very fulfilling one. So, why am I okay with the fact my pants are too tight?

Well, I know I tend to gain a few pounds when I get stressed and too busy to concentrate on "me". And I am busy. I'm a mother of two wonderful boys ages 16 and 11. They bring so much joy and love to my life (and at times, aggravation, but I love that too). I attend most of their games and there are a lot of them. I enjoy spending as much time with them as I can which never seems to be enough. I just adore them.

Sexy Skins has never been so busy. It's so exciting to give birth to an idea, put your heart and soul into every inch of its existence, then watch as it grows right before your eyes. We have the most amazing clients and have worked on some really spectacular projects. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunities that have arisen!

I am blessed to have great friends who have stood by my side through the best times and the worst. They continue to offer their support and are patient with my busy life and schedule. They push me, and encourage me to continue. They even create opportunities that I may have passed by.

No doubt my life is full....along with favorite black pants when I try to squeeze my fanny into them. And that's okay. I know when things settle a bit, I'll be able to focus more on myself, exercise more, and eat better. With a less stressful life, the hormones will be more in check too. It's really up to me to take control, reduce stress, and find balance, and I will work on that along with reminding the Sexy Skins world that you are beautiful, no matter what the size your pants are!!

We must stop being so hard on ourselves and feel bad because we're not a perfect size 0 like we see in magazines, on the runway, and on TV. If you are blessed with the perfect body, good for you! You need to call me and wear Sexy Skins! If you're like me, you need to call me and wear Sexy Skins too! Remember, if you pants are too tight, why torture yourself? Buy a bigger size! But always hold on to the smaller pair because even if you won't want to admit it, you will want to wear those again...and you will!

Charities We Support

Through the five years Sexy Skins has been in business, we have donated gift certificates as well as product to help individuals who are faced with personal health issues and hardships. We have also made donations to organizations such as The Jimmy Fund, and the Portsmouth FireFighters Charitable Association. In 2009, we joined with a team of artisans/businesses from around the country called, Etsy Project Embrace.

"Etsy Project Embrace began to support someone touched by cancer and continues to do so. The team's purpose is to reach out to those affected by the disease, create awareness and raise money for cancer research. "This is an incredible group of people whose bonding power could be summed up in these four words: altruism, advocacy, awareness and love. We are all about giving strength, hope and courage to each other and those in need no matter where they are,” explains team leader Kristin."

The ACS Etsy Project Embrace Team has surpassed its goal and collectively raised, $17,286.97.

Sexy Skins donates to ACS Team EPE 10% of each sale from our "Leather L ♥ V E Line". On December 31, we made our donation for 2010 to the American Cancer Society, of $106.00, our best donation as of yet, for a total donation amount of $151.00. Even though we met our fundraising goal, this is a feat I am very proud of, for it is because of your support we have been able to contribute. This disease has hit close to home in 2007 with the deaths of both my sister and Mother. So, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sexy Skins "Leather L ♥ V E Line":

Another charitable organization which Sexy Skins has shown support is one I'm sure you all have heard of...The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. In the summer of 2010 we met Brenda Smith of New England Walkers for Knockers. Shortly after, Sexy Skins became involved in NEW-4K's First Annual Breast Cancer Ride and After Ride Bash. You can read about the event's success here.

Sexy Skins put on one fabulous fashion show at the Bash, and we donated the beautiful Midnight Heaven Halter raising $300.00 in raffle sales. We also designed The Spirit Cuffs for the Cure (for Him and Her), donating $1.00 from the sale of each cuff which on it's own raised $100.00 for The Avon Walk. I am extremely grateful for the support from all of you!!

As we enter into the new year, Sexy Skins will continue to show our support for these two great charitable organizations with the continued sales of The Spirit Cuffs, and the Leather L ♥ V E Line, however we will be adding a third charitable organization to our list, The American Hospice Foundation. Both my family members spent their last moments under their care where I got to experience how amazingly wonderful and gifted the hospice staff truly are. I am eternally grateful for the love and compassion they demonstrated to my loved ones and my family during such a horrific time.

My love and devotion to Sexy Skins; our beautiful line of products and our customers, will continue to be my driving force and what inspires me to march on with hope, faith, and belief that 2011 will be a happy, healthy and prosperous year for all! The Circle of Life

New Cuff Design from Sexy Skins!

The Circle of Life is an intricate and sophisticated leather cuff and arm band, yet it embodies a simplistic style with an ease of wear. Its design was inspired by the circle, an ancient and universal symbol of unity, wholeness, and infinity. The circle represents the strength of the human spirit, and for the artist and his relationship with his craft; the meld of head, hand and heart.

The focal piece in The Circle of Life is a 2" diameter gunmetal ring. Attached to each side of the ring, are two 5/8" wide by 4" long leather straps. A total of six heavy duty gunmetal snaps secure ring and straps onto the cuff base. Ring and straps are completely detachable from cuff base, making the Circle of Life adjustable to fit wrist/arm size 6 1/2" up to 12 1/2". All measurements are approximate.

The Circle of Life is hand crafted using 5-7 ounce Latigo Leather. All the edges and the back are finished and burnished smooth.

A New Year Resolution....

We all make them, although I’m not sure why because myself, I never seem to keep them. I think that is because once a month or two passes, I seem to forget what it was I proclaimed I would change which is ridiculous since it’s pretty similar from year to year; I will eat less, exercise more, go to bed and rise earlier, work less with more family time, get more organized, motivated, driven and focused...yada, yada, yada. Rest assured, “Eating less” makes the list year after year.

I have always struggled with self-image which is why eating less makes my New Year’s Resolution list time and again. I grew up in a household where being slightly overweight was frowned upon. Thin was in. We were teased. We were insulted. One time when I responded enthusiastically with “Cheerleader Daddy!” to the, “what do you want to be when you grow up” question asked of every child, my Father burst into laughter and replied, “You will never be a cheerleader with those thighs” . As you can imagine, that was not something I found hysterical nor did I appreciate my dream being shattered in that way. I spent my teenage years as a cheerleader in an attempt to prove him and his memory wrong.

It has been decades since then, and I have not forgotten what was said on that day. I have spent years trying to forget those words and erase the hurt they left behind. On occasion, I have had “light bulb moments” where I finally see things as an adult should. Other times, I become that 8 year old little girl again, forgetting who I am and what is important. I have to remind myself of what it was I should have been told as a child and that even though perfection does not exist, how nice it would have been if the people who gave me life had helped me to believe that I was close to it, just the way I was and regardless of my size and shape.

If we have the belief that we are not good enough, thin enough, pretty enough, _______enough (you fill in the blank), of course we are not going to be. And if we feel a void or emptiness from not being enough, then we will find things to fill it like excessive food, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and even sex. If we could just accept ourselves with our faults, weaknesses, and the less appealing attributes we all seem to possess, then maybe we would not need to find ways of filling that void. If we could embrace our uniqueness, we would feel less empty and in its place maybe we would feel peace and contentment and actually like the person we are. And, maybe now we would be able to identify what is truly important in our lives, and focus on achieving our goals and living our dreams. Just maybe….

This year of 2011 my resolution will come from my heart because I have learned when it comes from the heart, the mind will follow. Change starts from within. So I, with resoluteness, will remind myself each day that I am beautiful; inside and out, mind, body and soul, regardless of shape and size, wealth and fame, status and success. I invite you to join me. Together, let’s make 2011 the year our dreams come true!

This blog entry, albeit of personal nature, I feel has much to do with the business of leather and Sexy Skins. So many have expressed to me a desire to be sexy but don't feel sexy because in their own mind, they don't see themselves that way and for different reasons. Sexy is a state of mind. Sexy comes in all sizes, shapes, ages, and colors. Sexy shows no prejudice. Get your sexy on in 2011!

Charities We Support....

"Etsy Project Embrace began to support someone touched by cancer and continues to do so. The team's purpose is to reach out to those affected by the disease, create awareness and raise money for cancer research. "This is an incredible group of people whose bonding power could be summed up in these four words: altruism, advocacy, awareness and love. We are all about giving strength, hope and courage to each other and those in need no matter where they are,” explains team leader Kristin."

The ACS Etsy Project Embrace Team has surpassed its goal and collectively raised, $17,286.97.

Sexy Skins donates to ACS Team EPE 10% of each sale from our "Leather L ♥ V E Line". On December 31, we made our final donation for 2010 to the American Cancer Society, of $106.00, our best donation as of yet, for a total donation amount of $151.00. This to some, might not be much nor have we met our fundraising goal, but this is a feat I am very proud of, for it is because of your support we have been able to contribute. This disease has hit close to home in 2007 with the deaths of both my sister and Mother. So, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sexy Skins "Leather L ♥ V E Line":

Another charitable organization which Sexy Skins has shown support is one I'm sure you all have heard of...The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. In the summer of 2010 we met Brenda Smith of New England Walkers for Knockers. Shortly after, Sexy Skins became involved in NEW-4K's First Annual Breast Cancer Ride and After Ride Bash. You can read about the event's success here.

Sexy Skins put on one fabulous fashion show at the Bash, and we donated the beautiful Midnight Heaven Halter raising $300.00 in raffle sales. We also designed The Spirit Cuffs for the Cure (for Him and Her), donating $1.00 from the sale of each cuff which on it's own raised $100.00 for The Avon Walk. Not quite reaching our goal, but again, I am extremely grateful for the support from all of you!!

As we enter into the new year, Sexy Skins will continue to show our support for these two great charitable organizations with the continued sales of The Spirit Cuffs, and the Leather L ♥ V E Line, however we will be adding a third charitable organization to our list, The American Hospice Foundation. Both my family members spent their last moments under their care where I got to experience how amazingly wonderful and gifted the hospice staff truly are. I am eternally grateful for the love and compassion they demonstrated to my loved ones and my family during such a horrific time.

My love and devotion to Sexy Skins; our beautiful line of products and our customers, will continue to be my driving force and what inspires me to march on with hope, faith, and belief that 2011 will be a happy, healthy and prosperous year for all! The Holiday Season is upon us. Shopping for gifts can sometime feel like a task. I thought it may be helpful to offer a bit of gift giving advice to our Sexy Skins followers.

Fashion is in my blood (I was probably designing clothing in my Mother’s womb and she and my Grandma were sewing before they ever learned how to ride a bicycle). I have my BFA degree in Fashion Design. I can draw, paint, decorate...you name it, if it has anything to do with creating, I can do it. Besides all that, I usually am the one you will speak with when you call Sexy Skins or email with questions or to place an order. I'm always the one who measures our clients, and the one who drafts their pattern. I am the only designer for Sexy Skins. I am also Sexy Skins best customer!! I have worn everything!! 10. Zen Cuff….what I love about the Zen Cuff is pretty simple; it looks hot on my man! And I have to admit, it looks hot on every guy I have seen wear it. It’s a simple, uncomplicated and sexy design. Period.

1st Annual Ride for the Cure was a HUGE SUCCESS!!!!

New England Walkers for Knockers

What an unbelievable Day! With over 200 bikes in attendance and $8,013 raised - the First Annual Ride for the cure was a huge success!

Thanks to mother nature, the sun was shining bright and there was not a cloud in the sky! The wind was a bit harsh and the temps were brisk, but that didnt' stop anyone from joining in on the beautiful escorted foliage ride along the back roads of New Hampshire. Thank you to all the police officers who escorted the ride and also the road captains and road guards who got us to our desination in a safe and timely manner.

We were joined by Portsmouth Firefighters who proudly displayed one of their fire trucks at Seacoast Harley-Davidson in honor of Sarah Fox; who is one of the individuals who will benefit from this fundraiser.

Bikes were decorated with pink bandanas, bras and one very special one remembering a loved one that had recently passed from breast cancer. The riders and passengers were also wearing pink in support of the cause! There would be no doubt this was a breast cancer ride.

The energy on the morning of the ride was amazing! Everyone was so excited to be part of this event. The riders started rolling in as early as 8am and everyone enjoyed coffee and donuts as they talked amongst the other ride particpants. We had participants who drove from as far as Pennsylvania and we were also joined by a few people from China!

Brenda Fox joined us as the grand marshal of our ride. She walked the crowd all morning and met many of the ride participants and took many pictures with everyone. She also had the opportunity to get to know many of them while sharing stories about her life experiences, their life experiences and with some, their experiences with breast cancer.

As we rolled into Manchester we were honored to be able to parade down Elm Street. Thanks to Mayor Gatsas for welcoming the ride at Granite Street and alsofor making an appearance at Jillian's.

The Sexy Skins Fashion show was a big hit! Brenda Fox was the MC of the show. Thank you to the Sexy Skins Models and everyone who was involved in the fashion show. Thanks also to Sexy Skins and Bizznatch Bling for the beautiful top they donated to the event which raised over $300.00.

There were many other raffle itmes donated which raised over $800.00. NE-W4K team mate Lori Elwell did a fabulous job showering the crowd with tons of tshirts and other give aways and had fun doing it!

We also had a few vendors and Clubs at the event, Wicked Paintworks, Cabin Fever and the East Coast Biker Chicks. Thanks also to the Elliot Breast Center of Manchester for attending the event and speaking with our participants about breast cancer.

We met so many wonderful people and everyone exrpressed they had a great time at the event. There were many stories shared about people who had been personally touched by breast cancer and they were very grateful to everyone who was involved in putting this event on.

With this being the first Ride for the Cure for NE-W4K, we had no idea how many people to expect. We were elated to see over 200 bikes attend the ride. As with any event, there are growing pains and there is always room for improvement. Overall, we felt the event was a very positive experience for everyone who was involved.

Well for me anyway. As some of you know, on September 24, 2007, my beautiful sister Dianne died from Leukemia. Less than 2 1/2 months later, my mother died from Cancer. Not only did both experiences feel like the life was sucked out of my soul, it changed my perspective on life and business. I realized how valuable time is. Once it ticks away, it's gone forever...you can never get it back. So I now make every attempt to use my time wisely, and spend it with people who are deserving of it, and doing things that bring joy, peace, love and happiness to myself and others.

So many people have told me that in business, you cannot help others until you can stand on your own two feet. That I must wait until we are profitable before I can move mountains. Well, after watching my two "go-to" women die from such a horrible disease, that perspective didn't sit too well. I had a vision and designed the "LOVE" Series where Sexy Skins donates 10% of the sales from those items to The Cancer Society, through a team called Etsy Project Embrace. I received an email no too long ago stating that the Project Embrace Team will be adding other charitable organizations in which we can donate to. Yesterday I got word of which those are and I'm so excited! They are:

1.American Hospice Foundation
2.Children’s Miracle Network
3.Macmillan Cancer Support
4.Susan B Komen for the Cure

Both my Mother and Sister spent their last days in a Hospice facility. Watching them die was the most difficult thing to witness. But seeing how much the staff cared and nurtured them during their last hours made it a little bit easier. I will never forget those people for loving and caring for my loved ones the way they did.

I have been holding off making my next donation from our "LOVE Series" sales until the list of charities came in, and I'm glad I did because the next donation will be going to the American Hospice Foundation. I may not be able to move mountains (yet), but each penny makes a difference. I first met Brenda Smith, founder of New England Walkers for Knockers, after our fashion show during Laconia Bike Week. She was looking for support for the 1st Annual Ride for the Cure which she is organizing. I felt compelled to help but wasn't sure to what capacity until while sitting at my son's baseball practice when the light bulb went off during a conversation with another Mom about Sexy Skins, business, and some of our products. Instantly, the gates were flooded with ideas as I hurried to write them down as fast as I could. I couldn't wait to contact Brenda! Then Lisa from Bizznatchbling, then Glynis from Sweetshot Photography, and the Wow Team grew....with the inclusion of Brenda's right hand woman, Lori, and, Arielle, Marketing Director from Seacoast Harley Davidson.

I'm sure you are saying to yourself right now, "Wow, what the heck is she talking about???" Well Brenda and I have assembled the most dynamic, energetic, and talented business women in the NH area, and Brent our only male member, to work together to create one great charity ride and a helluva good time to raise money for Breast Cancer!! You should see what we are working on as our team continues to evolve and grow with the possible inclusion of two more dynamic women! I am so pumped!! New Hampshire Magazine as “Best of NH 2010” for Custom Leather. The winners were feted last evening Thursday, June 24 at a celebration at the Manchester’s Verizon Wireless Arena which each year draws more than 1,500 people.

Partygoers were able to sample great food from dozens of restaurants, enjoyed the entertainment and entered to win in a drawing for two tickets from Southwest Airlines — all celebrating the best New Hampshire has to offer.

“It adds up to one heck of a good time,” says Rick Broussard, editor of New Hampshire Magazine.
“And, as a fund-raiser for the New Hampshire Food Bank, it’s for a good cause.”

Proceeds from last evening’s event ticket sales benefited the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program
of New Hampshire Catholic Charities. The Food Bank, the largest non-profit food distribution center in the state, obtains and distributes donated and purchased food to 412 registered agencies that in turn provide the food to hungry people in New Hampshire through soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, and elderly and children’s programs.

Sexy Skins Does Laconia Bike Week

No excuses but I certainly have good reason for such a lag in posts. I have been "crazy" BUSY! Sexy Skins has participated in numerous events and fashion shows throughout the past months, with the most recent at Laconia Bike Week. I knew eventually we would be showing Skins up there, but I never imagined it would be this year!! Thanks to The Tigerlily Band for introducing us to the owners of The Paradise beach Club who graciously allowed us to set up a booth in their establishment...the only vendor ever mind you...and strut our stuff on stage with Lily and the band. Check back here to view the video (once I figure out how to load it up). lol

For me, the highlight of this event was watching as our lovely models dressed in Sexy Skins of course, straddle the motorcycles of our biker friends as we rode through the streets of Laconia. The massive crowds who line the streets were stretching their necks to catch a glimpse of our leather procession. Cameras were raised and photos were snapped as we made our way, but it was I who should have been capturing the moment for the expressions on the faces of those who saw us, made me giggle. If anyone caught Sexy Skins Leather Parade with either stills or video, PLEASE send them to me!!!

Our stay in Laconia seemed way too short, but was long enough to meet so many wonderful people. I was very touched by all the women who expressed their appreciation for my art and the service we provide to design and fit all sizes and shapes. A very successful bike builder who came to see our show asked what separates our leather from the leather of other companies, and that is it! We at Sexy Skins know first hand how empowering it is to wear leather that fits us right. We understand that our world is curvy and no two curves are exactly the same. Sexy Skins hugs them all!!!

Holiday Cheer?

When I began this blog I decided to keep it all business, and keep my personal life and opinions where they belong. This morning while having my coffee, I thought how boring that can be, so today, I want to share something my 15 year old, G, short for Giovanni, said to me last night,

"November is my least favorite month. It's so gray. December is one of my most favorite. I love the holiday, and the snow."

Well, I almost lost my lunch from the anxiety both those things brought to my life..the time, the energy, the garage needs to be cleaned out so the motorcycle and the outdoor furniture can be brought in! Then it happened! One of those "Oprah" moments that completely stop you in your tracks, and shed light onto a situation as if it's the first time you're seeing it (btw Queen of Talk, I'm still waiting for the invite to come on the show).

I used to enjoy playing with the kids in the snow. I used to enjoy shopping and planning for the holidays. I used to enjoy wrapping presents lavishly and decorating every single room in my house. I used to enjoy cooking a traditional Italian feast for my family and friends. I even used to enjoy playing board games too - ok, that has absolutely nothing to do with the holidays, but my youngest son nags me about that all the time.

What happened to me? I'll tell you what happened, I grew up and stopped pretending I was Martha Stewart's clone, her twin separated at birth, or sistas from another Mother. Now I am asking myself, why? It wasn't such a bad thing, was it? I know my neighbors were pretty pleased when we showed up at their door with our smiling faces brimming with holiday cheer and a Christmas tin filled with a broad assortment of fancy homemade cookies.

Seriously, life happened. A long list of life altering, tear jerking, rip your heart out experiences which just changed it all, and changed me. Through it all, I found myself and embraced the person I am, and am not; conquered a whole lot of fears and set out to overcome, endure, and prosper, no matter what. In order to do so, maybe it's necessary to leave part of ourselves behind? I'm not sure. You can probably tell from this blog entry, I'm still working that out. What I do know though is, no matter what "Ka Ka" life dishes out, what matters most is how you choose to deal with it.

So this "Cyber Monday" (I could post a rant about that too), I have decided to remember what it feels like to be my children's age when life was so much less complicated, and to embrace the simple joys and pleasures which surround us every single day, but we're too dang busy (yes Brent, this city chick wrote dang – afterall, my desk is parked in Cow Hampshire) racing around trying to get "nowhere" because we need to get there before someone we don't even give a "Ka Ka" about gets there first. Brenda’s own personal battle with the disease has created the opportunity for her, through “Every Woman Counts”, a program which provides low-income women access to screening, diagnostic and follow-up services for breast and cervical cancer, to meet women who do not have insurance or the means to pay their medical bills. If I had to sum it up in 3 words or less, it would be, "what a whirlwind!!" of an experience!! Alan always seems to challenge me, not only my creativity, but also with time constraints. But that is what I love about the guy the most. He challenges me; as a designer, and a business woman. I have grown so much because of him. Ok, back to telling the story....

Alan being the fantastic artist he is, came up with a super idea for a jacket that incorporated the tooling art of leather artisan Pascal from Riff Raff Leather, and my craftswomanship. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to work with the "boot maker to the stars" even though I knew that with what time we had, and the distance between us, it was not going to be an easy task. What I didn't know, was how difficult it was going to be for me to work with leather I had never worked with before, in that short time.

After meeting the challenges of creating the design Alan had envisioned, and perfecting the pattern, I was now faced with the challenge of putting the jacket together. Pascal was wonderful to work with, always available to answer any questions I may have had. But who knew that this "twice the thickness" of leather I normally work with, was going to cause so much turmoil for my machine. Twice we had to call in the help of our most friendly repairman, Troy, of Stanley Sewing, (yes, shameless plug---this man deserves it!), who rushed to our assistance on a holiday weekend. Hey, time was running out and our job needed to be completed....we had a plane to catch! We missed our flight anyway. :-(

About 1:00 AM, the morning before Alan's red carpet premier in Vegas, our machine for the second time, would only stitch about an inch or two, before it started missing stitches. This was NOT good at all!! We had more work to do, and our only machine dedicated to sewing leather, couldn't handle the task. Machine number two was our only option, except, this machine was my mother's when she was a factory sample maker for a designer in Boston some 70 years ago. This machine was calibrated to stitch my linings, not leather. With some adjustments, we were able to stitch some of the leather, but not the thickest parts. We broke 6 needles in the process too, and stayed up the entire night trying to finish the jacket. On our way to the store to purchase new needles for our sewing dinosaur, Alan called asking where we are with his jacket. "We're coming! I am on my way to purchase more needles," I say. "If you don't get your a__ on a plane now, you will miss one of the biggest opportunities, and one which you have worked so hard for", he says.

Anyone who lives in NH, knows that it takes at least 20 minutes to get anywhere, unless you live right in the city. Sleep deprived, we ignore Alan's plea to jump on a plane, and finish our trip to buy the needles we need. We rush home, book the next flight from Boston to Vegas, pack whatever we can in 10 minutes time, then back to the workshop to get whatever sewing we can get accomplished in what little time we had left, which was almost none. With tons of threads hanging that need to be tied off and snipped, and seams left unsewn, we throw Alan's unfinished jacket into our bag, and scurry to the airport. Remember in the movies seeing folks frantically running through the airport to catch a plane? Well, that was us going as fast as we could toward our gate, and toward the pilot walking in our direction. He asked me, "are you on this plane?" I said, "yup". He then turned around and we walked on the plane together. I think they were waiting for us. lol

Last to be seated on the plane, and hungry as heck since there wasn't any time to stop to stuff our faces, we snuggle in for the long flight out west and patiently wait for the flight attendants to come around with something to eat and drink. While Brent closed his eyes to catch some much needed rest, I sat there with Alan's jacket on my lap and begun tying off all those threads in an attempt to finish whatever I could. Then I too, closed my eyes because I knew, once we set foot in Vegas, it was going to be a long night.

Alan was at the airport when we landed, which was about a half hour before the premier of The Room 101 Conspiracy Party. We were whisked off to The Palms and up to our hotel room where we gave Alan his almost completed jacket. He LOVED it! Thank God!! Even in it's almost completed stage. But the show must go on, right? And it did!

Alan made his way down to the red carpet wearing our creation, while we had less than a half hour to get ourselves cleaned up and dolled up for the big party. Alan called, "are you ready yet? We're waiting!" High heels and all, we race from Palms Place to The Palms Casino, with Alan as our personal GPS navigating us to The Playboy Club, where he's standing there, phone in hand, waiting to walk the carpet. We follow behind, as he takes his place, photographer's flashing, and video cameras taping. We watch as he does his thing. Finally, I can breath. But for what only seems like a second before we're whisked off into the club for a night of networking, mingling with friends new and old, and enjoying an experience of a lifetime. What a whirl wind!!!

After Vegas we flew to LA to spend some time with Alan in his shop. Dined at the infamous Rainbow Bar and Grill with Alan (wearing his new jacket), and shopped on Melrose Ave. too. The day we checked out of our hotel room, the day of the Oscars, we sat at the Starbucks on the corner of La Brea and Sunset, waiting for our ride. In walked Tim Allan! My first celebrity siting in LA. lol We say hello, in the same manner any dorky tourist would. Soon after, Pascal arrived to pick us up and take us to his workshop were he so kindly taught us a few tricks of the trade. What a super fantastic guy who's talent for tooling and boot making is just unreal! Pascal was nice enough to show us a few sites before we had to head back to Alan's and catch our flight home. After this experience, we were really looking forward to our 10:35 PM overnight flight back to Boston....now maybe we could catch some much needed Zzzzzz on the airplane before we return to the work that was awaiting us back in NH.

If you're not into motorcycles, then you may be wondering this very thing. Heavy Hitters Magazine wrote a really nice feature on him this past fall in the October-November Issue #6, which is where I got the photos you will see posted in this entry.

Alan makes some of the sickest motorcycles out there! He truly is an artist. I'm not kidding, he oil paints, designs furniture and creates masterpieces out of metal! Much of why I am so thrilled to have him wearing my creations! Ok, that, and the fact that he wears my Skins in magazines, and on television takes it up a notch too. lol

Heavy Hitters wrote, "If you're into custom bikes with a flair of attitude and revolutionary design then be sure to check out Alan Lee. His bikes exude the same slick swagger found in his personality and his creativity as a bike builder is killing the game. He's already pushed the boundaries when it comes to material use and design...."

I met Alan through a mutual friend who has worked on some of Alan's bikes. Tim, created the gas tanks out of glass!! One of Alan's most infamous bikes was built on The Chopper Challenge TV show for Monster Energy Drinks. Check out the tank, and the detail of this killer custom!!!

Alan is an inspiration; as an artist, a business owner, and a person. He is a remarkable character. If you can land a copy of Heavy Hitters, I suggest you do so. You'll be entertained....and, you won't be asking, "Who the F*CK is Alan Lee?"

Fashion show draws attention to downtown Exeter

EXETER — Models strutted their stuff to the funky music of The Head inside Town Hall Friday, where they showed off the latest fashions from local boutiques.

On Feb. 13 the Flush Funk and Fashion Series, organized by Exeter native Scott Ruffner, featured live music, lights and fashions from Luna Chics, Ablaze and Sexy Skins.

"It made me think more about my style," said audience member Frank Sabin, who joked, "It made me think I need to go tighter."

Many of the female models wore form-fitting bodice tops from Sexy Skins, a suede and leather fashions company in Newmarket. Brent Peters, of Sexy Skins, said the show was a great way to get exposure for their apparel.

"The more we do this, the more exposure we'll get and people will know who we are," Peters said. "We hope to promote, we hope to sell; we want everybody to have a good time."

Male models were decked out in denim and casual tops, and some were not new to the modeling game.

"It was familiar stomping ground because I used to model full-time when I lived in New York City," said Evan Maniquis, one of the models for the evening.

But others, like Mara Blanchette, were moonlighting at the event as models for a chance to try something new.

"It's really fun. It's just something different to do," Blanchette said. "I love wearing all the great clothes."

This is the second time that Ruffner, with his band, The Head, has held a fashion show event in town. Their last one was held at the Ioka Theater before it closed and was a sold-out affair. Ruffner said Friday's show was a success.

"The event was a lot of fun for everyone in the show, and the addition of local dancers into the mix was a perfect fit," Ruffner said. "It's just a shame that The Ioka is still shut down. That is truly the perfect local venue for what we're trying to do."

While the event aimed to showcase local fashions and music, it was also designed to draw people to Exeter's downtown. Those with tickets to the show were given discounts on dinners at participating restaurants, including The Tavern at River's Edge, Pimentos, 11 Water Street and Epoch.

"I took part in this because we're trying to keep people in town and show people who normally wouldn't come to town where the tavern is," said the restaurant's owner, Jeff Roth, who hosted an after-show party with the band The Head that was standing room only by 10 p.m.

Participating businesses stayed open late or offered special deals to encourage people to take in the town. The Exeter Inn offered discounted rooms to those who attended the show. La Cave a Vin, a specialty wine and cheese shop, hosted a wine tasting.

"We need more of this," said Exeter resident Susan Stewart, as she sipped a red wine at the tasting. "If Exeter did more of this, people would come."

Her husband, David, said he feels that Exeter's downtown shops and restaurants are unique in the area and a good option for those looking for a place to go out between Portsmouth and Newburyport, Mass.

"There's no place else in the Seacoast that has a town like this," he said. "Exeter is an excellent town with a lot of variety. They need to promote themselves like this more often."

The event drew at least one newcomer to town, Diego Gonzales, who is stationed at the Coast Guard Station in Portsmouth. Gonzales and two of his fellow Coast Guard members decided to check out the event and were impressed.

Flush Fashion Show Strikes Again!

On Friday night, February 13th, the third installment in the Flush Funk 'n' Fashion series took place at Exeter Town Hall in front of another impressive crowd. Models rocked the runway wearing fashions from LunaChics, Sexy Skins & Ablaze while The Head rocked the stage as always with their unique brand of original funky music from the Flush CD, seamlessly blending musical styles ranging from hip hop to soul to gritty R&B, highlighted by TVP vocalist Gwen "Gia3" Leathers belting out amazing riffs as the onstage fog billowed into her pink afro wig.

A new addition into the mix were locally based dancers Marianela Ramirez & Deo Mwano. Not only did they get the crowd hyped up to kick off the show, but they reappeared frequently with some freestyle moves to keep things groovin'.

The featured models ranged from seasoned professionals, Portsmouth resident Evan Manaquis used to work full time during his days in New York City, while Exeter native Mara Blanchette is new to the scene. "It's really fun. It's just something different to do," Blanchette said. "I love wearing all the great clothes."

Following the fashion show, much of the audience moved across the street to the after party at the jam-packed Exeter Tavern. The Head set up their gear and played an additional set of tunes as party-goers danced, drank and kept the party going into the wee hours, creating a fitting beginning to Valentine's Day.

According to Flush founder and executive producer, Scott Ruffner, there will be more Funk 'n' Fashion shows to come. "We've been delighted with the success of the first three events over the past several months. Each time out, we learn valuable lessons about how to keep improving things for the audience. We really believe we've created a unique nightlife experience on the Seacoast and it's only going to keep getting better."

Designer Lisa Cantalupo, and leather artisan, Pascal, from Riff Raff Leather, will combine their talents in the design of a third jacket
for master bike builder, Alan Lee. Pascal, leather worker to the Stars, Sheiks, and Sultan, specializes in hand-crafted, custom-made leather boots that are truly a work of art.

Jacket number 3 for Alan Lee will be the first in a series that will showcase the art of both designers and will be sold in select boutiques in New York City. Alan will wear the jacket next month in Vegas while attending the celebrity hosted red carpet affair, The Room 101 Conspiracy.

Come celebrate the release of TVP Records new compilation CD "Flush", featuring hot new cuts from members of The Head, The Press Project and Genevieve.

Models will be showcasing fashions from several local designers and boutiques while The Head performs music live from the balcony at The Portsmouth Pearl. Clothing will be supplied by Sexy Skins, Lunachics, Fast Eddie's Dirty Laundry, Azure, Ganesh Imports, Ablaze, and Top Drawer. Hair and makeup will once again be provided by the ladies from Portsmouth Spa. Tickets are $20 and available at all participating stores. The last one was a sellout so get your tickets early. A portion of the proceeds to benefit The National Breast Cancer Foundation.There will be a complimentary cocktail hour with drinks courtesy of Peak Organic, and Perfecta Wines, and food by Zampa, and Pimentos. Admission also qualifies you for door prizes and drawings for free giveaways and gift certificates. After party and dancing immediately following at Bourbon’s Nightclub, downstairs from the Muddy River.

The Ioka Theatre is Closing!!

I came across this article today and am so saddened by the news (see link below).

"Co-owner and President Roger Detzler announced Tuesday, Nov. 18, that the theater will close on Dec. 24..."

"The Ioka is a staple in the Exeter community that has been located on Water Street since 1915. The theater opened on Nov. 1 of that year with the epic “The Birth of a Nation,” directed by D.W. Griffith, and has pleased audiences since with a variety of films, musical concerts and comedic acts."

"Famous artists have crossed the stage including Fatty Arbuckle, Warren Zevon, Stephen Wright and many other comics and musicians."

And to think, Sexy Skins had the opportunity to show our fashions on the catwalk of the Ioka Theatre!

Sexy Skins attended The Room 101 Conspiracy's red carpet affair in Las Vegas last week. What a fantastic time we had!! We met a lot of wonderful people in the fashion and entertainment industry. I must say, it was very exciting to be surrounded by so many artistic and creative people. And, I got to see master bike builder, Alan Lee, wearing the jacket I created for him!!

Boy oh boy, what a challenge this was! I have so many custom orders and design projects that I'm currently working on. Plus, as I was crafting the piece, I decided to make a couple of design changes that I felt were necessary, and then one giant screw up due to my dang machine, all just slowed me down immensely.

But it's done!!! I finally finished Alan Lee's jacket #2, and it came out WICKED AWESOME!!! I LOVE it!! I'm so excited!!!!!! I cannot wait for him to see it and to be able to show it off myself!! I will be posting photographs of the finished piece as well as the entire process real soon!

Gosh I love what I do...God sure has blessed me!! *Big Smiles*.

Off to the next project....

Below is an email sent from the master bike builder Alan Lee. I designed and created a custom jacket for him, which by the way, you can see him wearing on CMT's The Chopper Challenge on July 2nd. If you're not familiar with the show, each master builder is given a crate of bike parts, and a challenge to build a bike in just 30 days for a given sponsor. It's really a cool show.

BIG DEAL!!

My 13 year old gently put his hand on my shoulder this afternoon and said, "Mom, no offense, but I think you're making a big deal out of this television show. It's just a jacket."

Just a jacket, he says. lol Must I explain to him all the hard work and effort that not only went into designing and making this "just a jacket", but all the time, effort, sweat, tears, and money that went into promoting myself and talents enough to gain the interest of a celebrity to even want to wear one of my designs and promote me on TV too? Boy oh boy.

I know, he's young and someday he'll realize what sort of an achievement this is for his old mother, however, I will confess, I am the type of person who thinks a beautiful sunset, a rainbow, or pretty daisies that mysteriously pop up in our yard in places you would think nothing could ever grow, excite me. I am one of those mothers who is ecstatic when their child hits the baseball or makes a great play during a game. Or when someone does something so simple just to show they were thinking of me. Yup, I do tend to make a big deal out of the littlest of things, and maybe because I have had to endure so many trials and tribulations in my life that the small things seem like the most incredible gifts from The Creator.

So YES, I will make a big deal of my latest accomplishment (see blog entry below), and even a bigger deal when I'm someday sitting on the Oprah show talking about my fashions. lol

Master Bike Builder Alan Lee and CMT's "THE CHOPPER CHALLENGE"

I just love this guy! His attitude and philosophy about things amazes me. Not only do I feel incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to work with him, and excited to be a part of his journey and success, but I am so blessed to be able to call him a friend. His wisdom and insight continue to inspire and motivate me to keep on keeping on.

Ok, enough about that. lol He told me all about the bike he is building for CMT's "The Chopper Challenge". If you are not familiar with the show, each master builder is delivered a crate filled with parts that they have to use to build a bike, for a sponsor, and within 30 days. I wish I could tell you the specifics of Alan's bike, because from what he has told me, it is going to ROCK!!

Make sure you watch, AND place your vote when his episode airs on July 2, which by the way, is the day before my birthday!! Hmmmm, think I'll throw a "TCC" party for the big unveiling and to celebrate my first Sexy Skins creation to make it to the big time. Hollywood, here we come!! Whooo hoo!!! lol

Where It All Began

When people ask, I tell them, it was my Mother who inspired me to begin a life of designing. I say life, because it started when I was a young girl and began designing costumes. But even before that, my mother made my clothing. A brown blazer and plaid skirt, sticks out in the memory banks and for one reason...brown brought out the dark circles in my eyes, and everyone always commented that I looked tired. lol

I didn't appreciate my mother's talent for sewing back then (I wanted to wear Levis like everyone else), but as I grew older and came to her with creations of my own, I began to see just how knowledgeable she was. It was amazing to watch her in action as she dissected my designs and found better ways to sew them up because, she wasn't a home sewer, but a factory seamstress in the 1930's,,,,sample maker for a Boston fashion designer to be exact, and one of the best in her trade. She knew the "In's and Out's" of production, and couture techniques to sewing garments that added class and sophistication, and of course, exceptional quality. I learned so much from her!!!

While in college and faced with the task of drafting patterns and sewing myself, I knew if I got stuck, Mom would be there to guide me. She was my best cheerleader, no matter what challenges lie before me. She was an incredible, strong, loving, and talented woman!! I miss Mom dearly!!

Summer Riding

Brent and I took the bikes out the other day for our very first ride of the season. It was finally hot enough here in Cow Hampshire so I wore The Rebel Cowgirl and I felt AWESOME....SEXY, EMPOWERED, AND COMFORTABLE!! Every single time I wear one of my designs, I feel this way and I'm told from my customers, that I'm not alone.

I realized more women need to experience this!!! More women need to feel the luxury of quality leather garments; what it feels like to wear garments that are handcrafted with love and care and are made to fit, NOT that cookie cutter stuff machine made in China that you see everywhere else!

Subject: SHUT UP!!!!!!!

Isn't that what Stacy from the show "Fashionably Late" always says when something looks FANTASTIC!!!! THIS ROCKS!!!! I LOVE IT!!!

I walked in the door from work and my husband says "you got a package"...I get packages all the time so I just glanced over at it but then I saw Sexy Skins on it and I threw my coat off, tore the package open and started tearing off my clothes...my husband was looking at me like I was NUTS!!!! I put it on and he said "Wow".... and it truly is WOW. Looks great on me with my blond hair and not to mention I have a bit of a tan left from my cruise (a little fake baking helps too).

You did a great job...I love the design and how soft the leather is AND IT FITS ME PERFECT!!!!!! Can't wait to wear it!!! I'll send you a photo of me sporting it when I do.

"He" is one of my most favorite bike builders going! I love his work!! His style is unique and and avant-garde. Hell, he is a true artist with metal and motor!! And not only is he a very talented bike builder, but Alan Lee is a wonderful person as well!! I have to say, I am feeling pretty dang lucky to have had this opportunity, and to have made such a great friend in the process. Life is good. :)

The world lost another beautiful woman on the 16Th of December. That day, I lot my best friend, my role model, and my hero. I find it hard to fathom the loss of 2 women who mean the world to me in just under 3 months time. My heart is broken. Although, when I look at my own children, I am reminded quickly at how wonderful and special a mothers love really is. One day they too will realize that no other can ever love you the way a mother can...unconditional and with every being of her heart and soul. It's such a selfless love and a true gift.

The loss of my Mother and my sister has me taking a step back and questioning my place in life. We all will die eventually, so why spend our time at meaningless and unfulfilled jobs? Why partake in activities that don't bring us joy? Why let someone else raise our children so we can afford a nice house and fancy cars??

I took on a new job prior to my mother's death and found myself placing that position before the well-being of my children. It felt horrible. I lost that job because I spent my mother's last days by her side, holding her hand. What at the time seemed unfair, may have been a gift. Maybe it's time to say goodbye to the possessions that up until now have brought me satisfaction, and pursue a life that is filled with substance.

I LOVE riding my motorcycle. I LOVE designing clothing. I LOVE leather. I ADORE my children. There's one or two pieces to my life's puzzle I need to find. Wish me luck. :)

I woke up this morning and began my usual routine once the kiddos were off to school. I received an email informing me of a comment left on my profile at The Fashion Network, http://fashionnetwork.dobizo.com/SexySkins . That comment inspired me to write the following blog entry which I feel was interesting enough to add it to my blog here. So, here it is, in it's entirety.

Tuesday morning here and I still haven't had my coffee!! That's a first. That nice comment left by a new friend, got my attention and got me started poking around in the forums, distracting me from my morning coffee routine.lol

The recent death of my sister has really altered my perspective of so many things. I will never be the same person I was before this event. Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe that's the gift she has left me. We only have one shot at life, and any given moment, that life can change significantly. We BEST live it!

For some reason, her death has given me this extra boost of courage, energy and spirit to press on and press hard to making my dreams come true. This new bit of courage has opened some doors that may not have opened otherwise. Great things are happening! Maybe it's just the natural progression of the business. Maybe it's my newest angel. Maybe it's hard work and dedication to something I believe in with all my heart and soul. Maybe it's a bit of talent. Maybe it's a combination of all. I do know it's not coincidence.

So my advice (not that I'm worthy to be giving any) to anybody that's reading my ramblings, is to get out there!! No matter how big or small you or your line is. Have courage to start - anywhere. Just try. That's all it takes. Then at least you can say you did.

A Tribute to a GREAT Woman

My heart is truly saddened by the loss of my oldest sister Dianne. She was more to me than just a sister, almost like a mother of sorts, since she was 18 years old when I was born. It's funny how people can effect your life and how they really impact it in ways that are hard to explain.

I am the woman I am today partly because of the person she was. I am so honored to have shared my life with her, but at the same time feel cheated from being able to create more memories together.

I know her spirit lives on in me, and through me, but still, I will forever miss her gigantuous smile, her kick ass approach to life, and her warm, caring, and loving heart. My life and those of others, will never be the same without her. No doubt, she has enriched the lives of all she has touched.

The Roar to the Shore Rally

Well, I'm back. I wasn't sure I was going to make it. What a long ass ride that was! It took us eleven hours to get there, sitting in bumper to bumper traffic through NYC, dealing with some of the country's most craziest drivers (no offense, but I'm use to a more laidback approach to driving up here in "Cow Hamphire") and scorching temps. The ride home took a bit less time since I dared to maneuver the bike in and out of the traffic, cutting folks off if I had too. lol I'm pretty proud of myself for enduring such a ride. I even handled a close call with a flying seat cushion and racing tractor trailer truck quite well. I feel like now, I can ride anywhere. ☺

I got to meet up with some old friends, and party with some new. Met some fascinating folks too, like Billy Lane, Russell Mitchell and Athena "Chickie" Ransom of "Vagabond Choppers". What a woman!! She is such an inspiration for all of us struggling to start and run a business doing something we love, while surviving some of life's hardships along the way http://http//www.vagabondchoppers.com/Chickie.htm. A great woman! I am so honored to have made her acquaintance. And I'm looking forward to doing business together. Speaking of which, it's time to get off the computer and get some work done. Ciao!
