The Circle of Life

New Cuff Design from Sexy Skins!



The Circle of Life is an intricate and sophisticated leather cuff and arm band, yet it embodies a simplistic style with an ease of wear. Its design was inspired by the circle, an ancient and universal symbol of unity, wholeness, and infinity. The circle represents the strength of the human spirit, and for the artist and his relationship with his craft; the meld of head, hand and heart.



The focal piece in The Circle of Life is a 2" diameter gunmetal ring. Attached to each side of the ring, are two 5/8" wide by 4" long leather straps. A total of six heavy duty gunmetal snaps secure ring and straps onto the cuff base. Ring and straps are completely detachable from cuff base, making the Circle of Life adjustable to fit wrist/arm size 6 1/2" up to 12 1/2". All measurements are approximate.



The Circle of Life is hand crafted using 5-7 ounce Latigo Leather. All the edges and the back are finished and burnished smooth.

A New Year Resolution....

We all make them, although I’m not sure why because myself, I never seem to keep them. I think that is because once a month or two passes, I seem to forget what it was I proclaimed I would change which is ridiculous since it’s pretty similar from year to year; I will eat less, exercise more, go to bed and rise earlier, work less with more family time, get more organized, motivated, driven and focused...yada, yada, yada. Rest assured, “Eating less” makes the list year after year.

I have always struggled with self-image which is why eating less makes my New Year’s Resolution list time and again. I grew up in a household where being slightly overweight was frowned upon. Thin was in. We were teased. We were insulted. One time when I responded enthusiastically with “Cheerleader Daddy!” to the, “what do you want to be when you grow up” question asked of every child, my Father burst into laughter and replied, “You will never be a cheerleader with those thighs” . As you can imagine, that was not something I found hysterical nor did I appreciate my dream being shattered in that way. I spent my teenage years as a cheerleader in an attempt to prove him and his memory wrong.

It has been decades since then, and I have not forgotten what was said on that day. I have spent years trying to forget those words and erase the hurt they left behind. On occasion, I have had “light bulb moments” where I finally see things as an adult should. Other times, I become that 8 year old little girl again, forgetting who I am and what is important. I have to remind myself of what it was I should have been told as a child and that even though perfection does not exist, how nice it would have been if the people who gave me life had helped me to believe that I was close to it, just the way I was and regardless of my size and shape.

If we have the belief that we are not good enough, thin enough, pretty enough, _______enough (you fill in the blank), of course we are not going to be. And if we feel a void or emptiness from not being enough, then we will find things to fill it like excessive food, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and even sex. If we could just accept ourselves with our faults, weaknesses, and the less appealing attributes we all seem to possess, then maybe we would not need to find ways of filling that void. If we could embrace our uniqueness, we would feel less empty and in its place maybe we would feel peace and contentment and actually like the person we are. And, maybe now we would be able to identify what is truly important in our lives, and focus on achieving our goals and living our dreams. Just maybe….

This year of 2011 my resolution will come from my heart because I have learned when it comes from the heart, the mind will follow. Change starts from within. So I, with resoluteness, will remind myself each day that I am beautiful; inside and out, mind, body and soul, regardless of shape and size, wealth and fame, status and success. I invite you to join me. Together, let’s make 2011 the year our dreams come true!

This blog entry, albeit of personal nature, I feel has much to do with the business of leather and Sexy Skins. So many have expressed to me a desire to be sexy but don't feel sexy because in their own mind, they don't see themselves that way and for different reasons. Sexy is a state of mind. Sexy comes in all sizes, shapes, ages, and colors. Sexy shows no prejudice. Get your sexy on in 2011!

Well for me anyway. As some of you know, on September 24, 2007, my beautiful sister Dianne died from Leukemia. Less than 2 1/2 months later, my mother died from Cancer. Not only did both experiences feel like the life was sucked out of my soul, it changed my perspective on life and business. I realized how valuable time is. Once it ticks away, it's gone forever...you can never get it back. So I now make every attempt to use my time wisely, and spend it with people who are deserving of it, and doing things that bring joy, peace, love and happiness to myself and others.

So many people have told me that in business, you cannot help others until you can stand on your own two feet. That I must wait until we are profitable before I can move mountains. Well, after watching my two "go-to" women die from such a horrible disease, that perspective didn't sit too well. I had a vision and designed the "LOVE" Series where Sexy Skins donates 10% of the sales from those items to The Cancer Society, through a team called Etsy Project Embrace. I received an email no too long ago stating that the Project Embrace Team will be adding other charitable organizations in which we can donate to. Yesterday I got word of which those are and I'm so excited! They are:

1.American Hospice Foundation
2.Children’s Miracle Network
3.Macmillan Cancer Support
4.Susan B Komen for the Cure

Both my Mother and Sister spent their last days in a Hospice facility. Watching them die was the most difficult thing to witness. But seeing how much the staff cared and nurtured them during their last hours made it a little bit easier. I will never forget those people for loving and caring for my loved ones the way they did.

I have been holding off making my next donation from our "LOVE Series" sales until the list of charities came in, and I'm glad I did because the next donation will be going to the American Hospice Foundation. I may not be able to move mountains (yet), but each penny makes a difference. Wow!!!

I first met Brenda Smith, founder of New England Walkers for Knockers, after our fashion show during Laconia Bike Week. She was looking for support for the 1st Annual Ride for the Cure which she is organizing. I felt compelled to help but wasn't sure to what capacity until while sitting at my son's baseball practice when the light bulb went off during a conversation with another Mom about Sexy Skins, business, and some of our products. Instantly, the gates were flooded with ideas as I hurried to write them down as fast as I could. I couldn't wait to contact Brenda! Then Lisa from Bizznatchbling, then Glynis from Sweetshot Photography, and the Wow Team grew....with the inclusion of Brenda's right hand woman, Lori, and, Arielle, Marketing Director from Seacoast Harley Davidson.

I'm sure you are saying to yourself right now, "Wow, what the heck is she talking about???" Well Brenda and I have assembled the most dynamic, energetic, and talented business women in the NH area, and Brent our only male member, to work together to create one great charity ride and a helluva good time to raise money for Breast Cancer!! You should see what we are working on as our team continues to evolve and grow with the possible inclusion of two more dynamic women! I am so pumped!! Once upon a time in a land where the cows moo,
